Evaluation - What have you learned from your audience feedback

What have you learned from your audience feedback

Throughout my research and planning for my poster, teaser trailer and magazine front cover, I wanted to make sure that the products that I were creating were not only appropriate for my intentions for it but productive and useful for my goals. I wanted to make sure that my magazine cover was eye catchy, appropriate and that I kept on track with what the audience would want and expect for a poster and teaser trailer.

For my posters, I asked both peers and teachers, so a wide range of age and backgrounds of what they expect to see on a film poster. I asked them if they would expect to find a wide variety of conventions that I have found as well as other ideas that I had for my poster. I scheduled a focus group with 11 people ranging from 15 to 44 years old and each of them had a questionnaire to complete. Whilst they were filling it out, I asked more in depth questions about their expectations of my media products and applied what they had told me.

In my focus group, I found out that they would expect to either see a character or a recognisable object from the film on. For independent films they expected to see reviews, stars or ratings but wouldn't for a mainstream film. They said that the largest font on the poster would obviously be the title with the tag line as the second largest. They also expected to see social media links especially in this day and age where "children are born with a smartphone in hand" as well as the release date and production companies. Although they did not mention the billing, I still mentioned it as it is usually overlooked in posters

Again for my magazine, using the same focus group as before, I asked them to answer my questionnaire regarding conventions of magazine front covers as well as deciding on which magazine title I should use out of five options. By doing this questionnaire it helped me create both what I wanted and envisioned and what potential buyers would look for.

Whilst making my teaser trailer, it was important that the font I used in it along with the font for the poster would be appropriate for the context and genre. I learnt from my audience what style of font and more specifically which fonts to chose. Although I did not learn which exact font to use in my focus group, it helped me greatly by narrowing down the choice between three good options.
